Dates for Closure of Stonewall Jackson Changed

Closure of Stonewall Jackson between Jubal Early and Cumberland -

Because of the possibility of rain, which would have hindered the soil stabilization required in the reconstruction, the work is now planned to start on February 2 and run through February 6. The asphalt patch near Fairway Village on Stonewall Jackson will also be paved during this timeframe.

Voter ID - We Must Get This Passed in Texas

Received this note from Luine Hancock with Senator Robert Nichols' office -
As you probably know, the Senate has set the stage to pass photo ID during this session. Ironically, passage in the House is not as certain as it was in previous sessions. If it is to pass, then we must let our state representatives know we want it to pass. Passing this legislation likely will require a sustained effort on our part throughout most of the session.

Please forward this email to all your friends and contacts all over the state of TX.

For starters, please make two phone calls. One to the new speaker, Joe Straus' office, and one to your state representative. Although we plan to contact Democrats later in the session, we are only contacting Republicans for now. If your state representative is a Democrat, then call the Republican state representative nearest to you.

It’s very important that you be polite and gracious. Rude or demanding behavior never helps, and in fact, often backfires.

First phone call:

Speaker Joe Straus
Austin office: 512-463-0686
District office (San Antonio): 210-828-4411
Email: Joe.Straus@house.state.tx.us

Tell him 2 things:
1 - Ask that he appoint a chair of the Elections Committee who is favorable to the Voter Photo ID bill.
2 - Providing a photo ID for voting is important for keeping the election process honest.

Second phone call:

Your state representative(if he/she is Republican) or the Republican representative nearest you. (We will call Democrat reps later in the session, but not now.)

Click on this link to find who represents you. http://www.house.state.tx.us/members/welcome.php to also find their contact information. Use the box in the upper right to find your state representative, then click on his name on that same page to find his Austin and district offices' phone numbers and addresses.

Tell him/her one thing:
The Voter Photo ID bill is important to you, and you want to see it pass.

We need photo ID for everything from cashing checks to renting movies. It just makes good sense to require the same to vote.
This is not a partisan issue. It is important in order to ensure honest elections.
Any bill we pass will not suppress the votes of the poor and elderly. Provisions will be in the bill, which will prevent that.
Texans have indicated that this is very important to the integrity of our voting system.
